Thatch Fire Retardant Spray

Protect your thatch roof with thatch fire retardant spray.

We are an approved applicator of Thatch Marshal 8000. Thatch Marshal is a water based fire retardant spray for thatch. It is applied to thatch roofs to help stop flames spreading if there is a fire.

Protect your Roof with Thatch Marshal 8000

Thatch Marshall uses a water-insoluble phosphate that gives off flame reducing properties, reduces rainwater run-off and prolongs the fire retardant properties of treated thatch.

This thatch fire retardant is NON-TOXIC. It is safe for the team when we apply it, as well as for the people living with it.

Will Thatch Fire Retardant Spray Stop a Fire?

We would like to bring to your attention that Thatch Marshal 8000 is a fire RETARDANT – it will not stop a fire if naked flames come into contact with a thatched roof. The purpose of a fire retardant spray is to reduce the spread of fire, allowing it to be attended to. It is important to have an up to date fire Rational Design in place which details the fire precautions that need to be taken. The Rational Design will also say what actions need to be taken if a fire breaks out. It takes into consideration your access to water, water pressure and other important fire fighting factors. You should always ask a professional to draw up the Rational Design.

Thatch Fire Retardant Spray – the Application Process

We apply the spray to both new and existing roofs. We apply the fire retardant solution with a high pressure pump both inside and out. You should always use an approved applicator when applying the fire retardant spray because the correct measurement of solution needs to be sprayed onto all areas of the roof. We spray the roof systematically to make sure that each area is covered properly because if the specifications for application are not followed the roof may not be properly protected.

Spraying Fire Retardant onto an Existing Thatch Roof

If the spray is being applied to an existing roof the thatch might need maintenance to make sure that it is in an appropriate condition for the application. The maintenance that we do to make sure your roof is ready is usually brushing off a thin outside layer of the thatch. This is not always necessary and we can advise you whether your roof is ready to be sprayed.

We answer your Questions:

HOW LONG DOES THE SPRAYING TAKE?

It takes us around 1 hour for every 10 square meters of roof that we spray. The spray takes 30 minutes – 1.5 hours to cure depending on the weather conditions. We can only apply the fire retardant on clear, dry, sunny days.

Once the spray is dried and cured it is totally clear and invisible so you will not be able to see it on the thatch.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The cost of applying the thatch fire retardant spray depends on the roof size and location – please note that our quotation is based on the area of the roof, not the floor area of the building. Contact us for a quotation.

IS THE SPRAYING GUARANTEED?

Bosazza Roofing & Timber Homes will provide a Certificate of Application which lasts for five years and can be submitted to insurers and interested parties.

HOW OFTEN DOES IT NEED TO BE RE-APPLIED?

The fire retardant spray needs to be re-applied every five years.

CAN YOU BUY THE THATCH FIRE RETARDANT SPRAY AND PUT IT ON YOURSELF?

No we cannot sell the fire retardant to you as it needs to be applied by an approved applicator.
