Thatch Reed for Sale
Bosazza Roofing & Timber Homes sells two types of thatch: Cape Reed (the most commonly used thatching reed in South Africa) and Hyparrhenia Hirta (a finer thatch grass). It is important to ensure that you choose the right thatch for your thatching project:
Cape Reed (Thatching Reed)
Cape Reed is the most commonly used thatching reed in South Africa due to its durability, general availability and cost effectiveness.
Guide Price: R 4.20 per bundle
Hyparrhenia Hirta (Thatching Grass)
Hyparrhenia Hirta is a much lighter thatch than Cape Reed and is classified as a thatching grass due to its hollow core; it is well suited to humid, coastal conditions.
Guide Price: R 3.20 per bundle
Both Cape Reed and Hyparrhenia Hirta have a similar life span when installed to the correct specifications on thatched roofs – as a guideline the roofs can last for approximately 20 – 30 years. Cape Reed can, in certain climates, outlast this; particularly in hot, dry environments away from harsh coastal or humid conditions.
